Are you...
...overwhelmed with conflicting advice
and don’t know who to turn to?
...struggling with painful nipples,
feeding plans, and emotional distress?
...experiencing baby's unexpected weight loss
and are not sure what to do?
I HEAR YOU AND LET ME TELL YOU THIS: YOU ARE NOT ALONE !
When my first born struggled to latch I was in the fortunate position of hiring an Postnatal Practioner, thanks to a generous gift from my mum, who gave me focused 1:1 support and guidance over the first few days.
So, I expected a few challenges with my second child… and was pleasantly surprised when she latched no problem!
What I didn’t expect was for her to not be feeding efficiently, to have insufficient energy to support her suckling skills, for me to be in SO much pain, and for her to have to be admitted to hospital at 5 days old and put on a strict feeding plan. It was one of the most traumatic times in my life.
I went to a peer-support group; I met with the infant feeding lead; various paediatricians; nursing staff. Everyone had a different idea of what ‘might’ be going on. The result: confusion, distress, absolute exhaustion. The culmination of this? My rapidly deteriorating emotional health and trauma symptoms.
7 weeks later I FINALLY had the breastfeeding resolved and my daughter nursed for much longer than I ever anticipated. My emotional health, however, took much longer to resolve.
Had someone shared ALL of the information I would have been able to make an informed decision on how to feed my baby with a bottle, whilst addressing the challenges of breastfeeding, and my emotional health would have been protected. That realisation led me to going back to university to study as much as I possibly could to ensure that no other parent experienced the distress of feeding their newborn in the way that I had.

Matresence: “The process of becoming a mother, coined by Dana Raphael, Ph.D. (1973), is a developmental passage where a woman transitions through pre-conception, pregnancy and birth, surrogacy or adoption, to the postnatal period and beyond. The exact length of matrescence is individual, recurs with each child, and may arguably last a lifetime! The scope of the changes encompass multiple domains –bio-psycho-social-political-spiritual– and can be likened to the developmental push of adolescence.” Aurélie Athan, Ph.D.

BUT DON’T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT…
Mel is an absolute hero! She single handedly saved our breastfeeding journey in September 2018! (Viv Taylor)
Mel’s support was amazing at a time when I was questioning if breastfeeding was even for us. She listened to us and offered simple tweaks remotely that were effective quickly and gave me the confidence to carry on. (Bex Vials)
At about 7 weeks I started to find breastfeeding really painful with sore nipples. I knew I wanted to continue but it was getting increasingly hard. I turned to Mel who immediately provided invaluable practical advice and reassurance. Mel was proactive, confident in her advice and importantly kind and supportive. With her help I got through the tough patch and continued breastfeeding for 18 months which my son and I loved. I don’t know where I would have turned to without her. (Anon)
Absolutely anyone who needs breastfeeding support (and even if you don’t) should reach out to Mel, wherever you are in the world; this is a great age of technology and this allows her to spread her gift to as many people as possible! (Nina Kay)
Mel has been so supportive of our struggles to bread feed and incredibly generous with her times. Mel diagnosed tongue tie in our little girl when none of the midwives would listen to my comments that something was wrong. (Joanna Coleman)
So grateful to Melody, who is always on hand to answer breastfeeding questions. After two months of breastfeeding without any issues, I suddenly had really bad pain on one side. Melody diagnosed the problem right away and fixed it within a day! I am absolutely blown away by how good she is. Would definitely recommend her services. (Alex Lewis)
